L&D and D&I: working together toward reconciliation

Recording now available.

Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is a topic that is, quite rightly, receiving more and more attention in public discourse. Likewise, building an inclusive culture is high on the agenda of many employers in 2021, with people from all walks of life looking to drive change.

In Australia, we are faced with our own unique challenges around reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. The journey towards reconciliation undoubtedly requires participation from businesses and within their workplace, and L&D leaders can play an outsized role in fostering an inclusive culture.

To better explore this topic and celebrate the movement of reconciliation, we welcomed L&D professionals from all corners of the Australian workforce to join us for a special panel discussion with Michelle Ockers, Organisational Learning Strategist, and Andrew Olsen, Indigenous Engagement Leader at GHD.

The live session covered:

  • Creating a Reconciliation Action Plan, or RAP, to inspire and drive progress

  • How L&D can serve as part of employers’ reconciliation programmes

  • Ways employers are executing a learning strategy that is aligned to the four key pillars of Reconciliation Australia: relationships, respect, opportunities and governance.
